Coming to Phoenix, AZ for Vacation: Don't Miss the Golf
A friend recently asked me what he and his wife can do outdoors in Phoenix, AZ. They were excited about going but had a couple of days with no plans, and didn't want to just be indoors the whole day; the answer was easy: golf. People who like to golf know that AZ has beautiful golf courses, and tournaments, including the famous Waste Management Open in Phoenix in February.
If you're going to golf after April (high season is October to April), look for deals at courses, like twilight rates or special packages. Below are 10 courses broken down by area:
Scottsdale
1. Troon North Golf Club
Troon North Golf Club has 2 desert-style courses: the Monument and Pinnacle. Famous for their challenging layouts and breathtaking scenery, these courses are often regarded as the pinnacle of desert golf in Arizona.
2. TPC Scottsdale, Stadium Course
TPC Scottsdale, Stadium Course is where the February PGA tour's WM Phoenix Open is held! The Stadium Course has different levels and a fan-friendly atmosphere. The par-3 16th hole is known for its "electrifying environment" during tournaments.
3. Grayhawk Golf Club
Grayhawk Golf Club has 2 courses and has hosted a number of professional events. It has both traditional and modern design elements. The club is also home to Phil's Grill, named after ambassador Phil Mickelson.

We-Ko-Pa Golf Club in Fort McDowell has 2 award-winning courses, Cholla and Saguaro, and is free from residential development. The courses are celebrated for their pristine conditions and panoramic desert views.

The Boulders Club in Carefree has natural landscape that is one of my favorites. You're surrounded by striking rock formations that make you feel like you're on another planet. It has 2 courses that are quiet and are a particular favorite among those looking for a more serene golfing experience.

Papago Golf Club is a lovely municipal course with a rich history. It has undergone significant renovations to enhance its playability and facilities. The course offers expansive fairways and views of the Papago Buttes.
8. Raven Golf Club
Raven Golf Club is known for its lush, pine-lined fairways (a rarity in desert golf), and provides a unique playing environment. The course is praised for its excellent conditions and welcoming atmosphere.
9. Lookout Mountain Golf Club
Lookout Mountain Golf Club is in the North Phoenix Mountains and offers elevation changes and stunning views. It's been recognized for its challenging layout and is a favorite amongst the locals.
