Make Your Bedding Last Longer at Your Airbnb!

Over the years, I have learned that one of the things people enjoy the most is soft sheets. When you go to a hotel, you want those comfortable pillows and sheets. I did a lot of research and found that you can actually buy those hotel sheets for your property. They continue to be a big hit with guests (and my family). But my bigger issue has been keeping a high number of sheets always looking and feeling new after so many washes. Sheets are expensive, so the longer they last, the better.

Here are some tips to keeping your sheets looking new and soft for your guests—and to save you money and get good reviews:

Immediately Wash Sheets, Duvet Covers, and Pillowcases

A fair amount of gross things accumulate on sheets, like dead skin, oils, hair, dust mites, and bodily fluids. Make sure you're washing the sheets thoroughly in between guests.

Use Gentle Cycles and Low Temperatures

Most sheets are plant fiber (like cotton or bamboo). These fibers can withstand a lot of cycles, but anything high should only be used if there's stains.

Wash your sheets on gentle cycles and low temperatures. This includes drying, which should be on low temperature setting, and long cycles, to make sure excess water has been dried.

Use Mattress Covers and Pillow Protectors

Use mattress cover and pillow protectors to keep both from stains and able to wash.

Proper Comforter Care

If you're washing a comforter, which you should about twice or three times per year, make sure you don't overload the machine. If your machine is too small, wash the comforter in a larger laundromat machine.

Comforters should be washed on a gentle cycle with extra rinse (if that's an option), and with either cold or warm water, but not hot (the filling could be damaged).

Check the tag before washing it to make sure it's okay or for specifics to your comforter.

Have Multiple Sets of Bedding

Have multiple sets of bedding for each bed so you can rotate and have less use per bedding set.

I normally keep 3 sets per bed, so I have the one in use, one being cleaned, and one extra.

Store Your Bedding Properly

Store your bedding properly to have a longer life. Put your bedding in a cool, dry place (not in a sunny area). And if you can, in a non-plastic bag to avoid dust, and mildew from forming.
