Where to Go in AZ with the Family
Arizona is a great destination to go on vacation with your family. It has fun learning opportunities for kids, nature, and activities. I have fond family summer memories in AZ as a kid: road tripping through the state, my big brother teaching me to swim in the hotel pool, and vivid memories of the Grand Canyon.
I've been back to AZ many times since then, and it never gets old. Even though the summer there can be hot, it's super fun. Here's a few suggestions for you if you take a family vacation with kids (old and young) through AZ.
Start in Phoenix
If it's too hot:
- • Arizona Science Center - Interactive exhibits and hands-on learning
- • Children's Museum of Phoenix - Perfect for younger kids
For the little ones:
- • Pangaea Land of Dinosaurs - Kids will love the dinosaur exhibits
Enjoy summer:
Go get Mexican food, ice cream, and go to the pool! If your rental doesn't have a pool, get a day pass.
Check out Page and Antelope Canyon
Incredible nature part 1:
Antelope Canyon is impressive, surreal, and unlike anything you or the kids will see. You have to make sure you reserve ahead of time.
Incredible nature part 2:
While in the area, don't miss out on seeing Horseshoe Bend.
Don't miss out on the Grand Canyon
A natural wonder:
If you've never been to the Grand Canyon, you're going to love it. Its views are indescribable, and truly a geological wonder. Just don't veer from the path and watch your kids! I recommend booking a tour, taking the shuttle, walking the easier trails (like Bright Angel Trail), and/or doing the daytrip train ride.
Family friendly nights:
Hang with the family and go bowling near Grand Canyon village, and get some ice cream. They've earned it after a long day!
Random and Unique Day Sights
Ghost Town:
Jerome was once one of the largest cities in AZ, but after its copper mines closed, it became a ghost town.
Lake fun:
Lake Havasu is a unique and fun friendly town. You can enjoy water activities (beaches!), views, and history.
Starry night tours:
The advantage of so much open terrain is that you can easily enjoy the stars free of light pollution. There are several tours that offer a special view of the night sky all over AZ.
